Why We Don’t Fit Customer-Supplied Parts

Why We Don’t Fit Customer-Supplied Parts (And Why It’ll Cost You More Than You Think)

We get asked this a lot:

“Hey, I bought the part online — can I just bring it in and you fit it?”

And look, we get where you're coming from.
You’re trying to save a few bucks. Makes sense, right?

But here’s the truth: it rarely saves you money, and 9 times out of 10, it turns into a bigger headache… for you and us.

This isn’t us being difficult. This is about doing things properly, safely, and without the chaos that comes with dodgy eBay parts and last-minute surprises.

The Wrong Parts Happen More Than You Think

We’ve had people bring in brake pads that don’t fit their model.
Filters with the wrong thread. Suspension components for a completely different vehicle. Even timing belt kits that were straight-up knockoffs.

Online listings aren’t always accurate, and unless you know your VIN and your part numbers inside out, there’s a good chance what you’ve bought... won’t actually fit.

That leaves us in the lurch, with your car on a hoist, tools out, and a job we can’t finish. Now you’ve got to return the part, re-order, and reschedule ( plus you probably wont get a refund either so it costs you more $$$ ) . That’s a heap of unnecessary stress.

Quality Matters — Especially When It Comes to Safety

There’s a huge difference between cheap aftermarket parts and the quality gear we choose for our workshop.

Sure, that $45 fuel pump looked like a bargain online — but if it fails on the highway, good luck explaining that to the tow truck driver.

When we source parts, we’re not looking for the cheapest thing on the internet. We’re looking for brands we trust, suppliers we can back, and components we know will do the job properly … not just today, but six months down the track.

Because let’s be real: you’re not saving money if you have to fix it again.

We Can’t Offer Warranty On Stuff We Didn’t Supply

This one’s non-negotiable.
If you bring the part, and we fit it — we can’t offer any warranty on the part OR the labour.

If something goes wrong, even if it’s installed correctly? You’re on your own.

Whereas if we supply the part and it fails, we cover it. That’s on us. No finger-pointing, no runaround. Just sorted.

It’s a protection for you… and for our workshop. We want to be able to back what we do, 100%. Fitting unknown parts we didn’t supply takes that off the table.

It Doesn’t Actually Save You Money

We know it seems like it might. But when you add it all up… the risk, the back-and-forth, the time lost when it’s wrong, the lack of warranty … you end up paying more.

And that’s before we even factor in the cost of chasing quotes, returning wrong parts, or us having to undo bad DIY installs before we can even start the job.

We’re not saying this to be greedy. We’re saying it because we’ve seen it go wrong a hundred times — and we don’t want that for you.

So What Should You Do Instead?

Just tell us what’s going on with the car, and let us quote the full job …. parts, labour, the lot.

We’ll source the right gear from suppliers we trust, warranty everything, and if anything goes pear-shaped, we’ll deal with it — not you.

That’s how we keep it simple. That’s how we keep it safe. And that’s how we keep our reputation solid.

We’re not just here to turn spanners.
We’re here to do the job right … the first time.

So while we love that you’re trying to be proactive (and we respect the hustle), fitting customer-supplied parts just isn’t something we do.

If you’ve got questions, hit us up.
